How to Install Samba on Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr)
Samba is a software package which is helps to sharing files between linux and windows.If you want to share files between your Ubuntu and Windows computers, your best option is to use Samba file sharing. This post explains that how to share files between ubuntu and windows using of samba server: –
- Install Samba – Use the following command to install Samba server on Ubuntu 14.04 system.
$ sudo apt-get install samba
- Create New Directory – Now create a new directory to share using Samba. You can also use any existing directory and skip this step.
$ sudo mkdir -p /var/www/shared
- Create New Share – We have got installed samba server, but now we’ll need to configure it to make it accessible. Run the following command to open the configuration file, choose your editor
$ vi /etc/samba/smb.conf
[shared] path = /var/www/shared read only = no writeable = yes browseable = yes valid users = myuser guest ok = no
- Create User for Samba – Now use any existing system user or create a new system account. Also add them in samba .
$ sudo adduser myuser $ sudo passwd myuser
Now add this user in samba
$ smbpasswd myuser
$ sudo service smbd restart OR $ sudo service smbd start
$ smbclient -L postvide -U myuser OR $ smbclient -L postvide -Uusername -I ip-address
